 In 2020, a new wave began in the Malaysian Tamil Hip-Hop scene a revolution born out of pure passion, zero budget, and full determination. Puthiya Thalaimurai, the first duo mixtape by SHIVANZ and Wheelchair Rapper, was more than just a collection of tracks  it was a movement that symbolized brotherhood, grit, and the raw hunger of the underground.

How It All Started

It all began with “Sagavaram,” a demo track by SHIVANZ, produced by VR Beatz (Viqnendra Renganathan). Around that time, Wheelchair Rapper had become a household name after his electrifying performances on Rap Porkalam, the Astro Rap reality show. SHIVANZ reached out to him for a feature on Sagavaram, and the chemistry was instant —their verses collided with energy and emotion, creating a major buzz in the underground circuit.

The Birth of the Mixtape

After the success of Sagavaram, released on 14 April 2020, the duo decided to take things further. On 23 November 2020, they began working on what would become Puthiya Thalaimurai. With no fancy studio, no professional setup  just passion and smartphones  they made history.

SHIVANZ was based in George Town, Penang, Wheelchair Rapper was in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, and producer VR Beatz was in Melaka. The entire mixtape was produced, recorded, and coordinated through WhatsApp chats and video calls.  within 2 weeks , the trio completed 10 full tracks, proving that creativity knows no limits.

The tape brought together a powerful lineup of artists across Malaysia and India, including Danny Cacyz, Thirumagan, Mizta Nesh, Sai Zaas (Kerala, India), and Madrasi.
